SAFL Mission Statement

This organization was formed at the Ludlow Boys Club in 1966 and is known as the Suburban Amateur Football League (SAFL).
The Suburban Amateur Football League, SAFL serves the youth of Western MA. in grades 3 to 8.
The SAFL endorses the concept of maximum athlete participation at all levels of play in the league. The SAFL encourages and enables youth to benefit from participating in football in a safe and structured environment. Throughout our league we teach sportsmanship, fundamentals, teamwork, skills and knowledge that youth will use throughout their lives.

Super Bowl Rules:

> All Officials Fees and EMT fees will be paid by the SAFL

>Regulation SAFL Rules (by age division)
>Regulation SAFL game timing (by age division)
>Four (4) officials per game

>The home team will be the West Division teams and they will rotate yearly with the East Division teams being the home team in 2019.

All ties go to the following overtime tie-breaker format:

- The away team calls the coin toss. The winner chooses offense or defense, the loser choses which end zone to defend. - Each team gets a chance on offense, starting from 15 yards out.
- The team keeps the ball until it either scores or turns the ball over (via a fumble or interception) or fails to gain a first down.
- Once the first team has scored, failed to score, or turned the ball over, the second team gets the ball on offense.
- This is repeated until a winner is determined.
- It is possible for the game to end on the first play of overtime without the second team getting a possession. If the first team turns the ball over and the defense scores on the turnover, the game will end.

>Each town's EMT rates are different and they will be spilt evenly, per game/per team involved. If you have multiple teams you must pay for each game.

REMINDER OF THE 2018 OFFICIALS FEES:

VARISITY FEES:
PEE WEES - 2 OFFICIALS $45 EACH
JUNIORS - 3 OFFICIALS $50 EACH
SENIORS - 3 OFFICIALS $50 EACH

JUNIOR VARSITY FEES:
PEE WEES - 2 OFFICIALS $45 EACH
JUNIORS - 2 OFFICIALS $50 EACH
SENIORS - 2 OFFICIALS $50 EACH

Article 20 - Officials

  1. Two Certified Officials are required to preside over every Pee Wee game. A minimum of two Certified Officials are required to conduct Junior and Senior games, although three Officials are highly recommended. If only two officials are present at the Junior and Senior games, they will split the third official's fee.
  2. The league requires that two certified official be present at every Junior Varsity (JV) game.
  3. The home team is responsible for payment of all officials for all varsity games. Junior Varsity teams will split the cost of the officials.
  4. If you are a team that is considered a travel team each official gets an additional $10 (once, not for each game) for travel expense. Travel teams are: Amherst, Belchertown, Easthampton, Frontier, Franklin County, Northampton, Palmer, Quabbin, Quaboag, Ware and Warren/West Brookfield.

SAFL DRONE POLICY

Prohibiting the use of Drones (Unmanned Aircraft Systems or UAS's). Unless granted special permission by the SAFL Commissioner, the use of drones (UAS), for any purpose, is not permitted at any SAFL regular season game, playoff game or super bowl.. This Prohibition applies to all fields of play and covers a ban on the entire facility being used as part of the SAFL event, including the spectator stands and parking area. This ban does not include practices.

 
SAFL NATIONAL ANTHEM PROTEST POLICY

A student athlete has the right to voice their first amendment right and protest the National Anthem in a respectful way. Kneeling, sitting, etc... quietly is appropriate and their right. Even though viewpoints may vary, it is important to note that this is a form of protective speech. At no point, can a coach hand/issue out any discipline in relation to this or any matter pertaining to an individual's right.
